Nigel has been working in the seafood industry for over 35 years, working his way up from packing and delivering lobsters to becoming Buying Director of a major seafood processing company. In 2005 he went independent in order to focus on the trading and development of sustainable seafood products.

The result is 8 Seafood Ltd. The central ethos of the company is to source, develop and introduce to the public seafood products that are from low impact fisheries, have a low carbon footprint and promote the welfare of caught or farmed fish.

The first company Nigel worked with was Pescaviar, a Spanish family-owned business that pioneered the preparation of ‘faux caviar’ from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture operations, thus sparing the endangered wild sturgeon stocks. We have now worked with Ana and Rocio for over 15 years and have together developed a range of products, including the well-known Arënkha fish pearls made from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified smoked herring, providing an affordable, tasty and sustainable alternative to real caviar.

Our most recent venture is exploring the potential for seaweed products. Seaweeds are a fast-growing, low trophic marine algae that has the potential to transform the seafood scene. They are able to capture carbon and have a vast array of possible products, from human food to high value pharmaceuticals.

Working with Neil & Thomas of Wavy Wonders in Norway, we are introducing their wonderful array of health snacks, which are equally good after a work out in the gym or with a beer over good conversation.
